The Admiral's Covid-19 Vaccination Program Featured in Care.com

2020 was an unforgettable year for everyone, but those living in independent and assisted living communities had a different, albeit greater, set of challenges to overcome. Since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, senior living facilities were especially impacted and fueled the increasing death rate among Americans. Without enough proactive testing and access to testing supply for residents and staff, more than a third of the total recorded losses were centralized to long-term care facilities.

On top of facilities experiencing an increased risk of outbreaks, senior living communities like The Admiral at the Lake struggled with how to keep residents safe but still engaged. These communities are designed to help seniors connect, build a sense of belonging and promote a continued active lifestyle. When those opportunities are stifled, it can cause residents to feel depressed and isolated, which is exactly what they aimed to avoid by joining a senior living community.

The Admiral at the Lake staff wasn’t going to let that happen to its community. Over the past year, they have been dedicated to the health and safety of their staff, while still creating unique ways to keep their residents connected. New programs like socially-distanced outdoor workout classes and virtual events were instituted to help promote continued engagement within the community.

While The Admiral at the Lake continues to take extra precautions to keep all residents and staff safe and healthy, everyone is thrilled to move forward with the hope of returning to normal operations in the near future. With the vaccination program that kicked off at the end of December, the community and its staff are in for an overdue sense of relief. Read below to see their feature in a recent care.com article.

There’s a general feeling of gratitude and excitement among residents, their families and staff around the availability of vaccines and being within the first group of recipients,” says Mark Dubovick, Health Services Administrator at The Admiral at the Lake, a senior living community in Chicago.
