The Admiral Earns Platinum SAGECare Credential

The older-adult community was recognized after completing in-depth training sessions for staff and executives on how to provide culturally competent care to LGBT residents.

The Admiral at the Lake recently earned a platinum SAGECare credential, the highest status credential possible that can be earned by an older adult service provider. The community received the platinum status accreditation for training 80% of staff and 80% of executives in culturally competent care for LGBT older adults.

To earn the credential, staff and executives completed training sessions on how to best serve older adult residents who identify as LGBT. Employees were trained in topics such as creating a welcoming environment for current and potential LGBT residents and the importance of understanding the culture, needs and concerns of LGBT older adults.

“At The Admiral at the Lake, we have always prided ourselves on being a welcoming and inclusive community to all residents,” said Nadia Geigler, CEO of The Admiral at the Lake. “The SAGECare credential is another way we can show community members that we are in tune with their unique needs as we uphold our Quaker values of honoring and respecting every person as an individual.”

SAGECare is a division of SAGE, the country’s oldest and largest non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of LGBT older adults. SAGECare provides LGBT competency training and consulting on LGBT aging issues to service providers. Credentials are earned annually.

The Admiral at the Lake and SAGECare will continue their partnership to best serve residents and make each older person feel comfortable for who they are.  Learn more about SAGECare’s training programs by clicking here.
