| “It seems only like yesterday,” said Mark Dubovick, reflecting on his first year working in the field of older adult care and services. Now, over two decades later, he is still putting his passion into action as the health services administrator at the Admiral at the Lake in Chicago. He has been at the Admiral for the last five years. “I had heard The Admiral was a premier community but I soon realized it wasn’t just superficial. When I was interviewing for the position, I had interviews not only with upper management but with residents and front-line staff as well. This demonstrated to me the Admiral’s commitment to bringing residents and staff together and valuing the contribution of each individual no matter their role or background,” said Mark. In catching up with Mark, we had the chance to ask him a couple questions on his work in the field. What has your most rewarding experience in your career? “I have had many rewarding experiences and many of them were just helping a resident or family and knowing that no matter how minor it may have seemed to me, it made a world of difference to them. More recently the pandemic has shown how we can all come together with a common goal and accomplish amazing feats. Throughout this journey I have gotten to know numerous staff members from various departments that I would not regularly have contact with but do to the various challenges of the pandemic we have had to come together in so many different ways.” What do you enjoy most of working for an older adult care and services organization? “I really enjoy the relationships that I have been able to build with older adults, and I have had the opportunity to not only care for them but to learn from them as well. Growing up I had a very close relationship with my grandmother who always had some words of wisdom or a personal experience to share. I have been able to have the same experience with working in an organization serving older adults.” |
