Admiral at the Lake Resident Honored by American College of Gastroenterology

Oct. 19, 2016—Dr. Richard G. Farmer, a resident of The Admiral at the Lake, was honored by the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) at the organization’s annual scientific meeting Oct. 14–19 in Las Vegas. ACG presented Dr. Farmer with its Samuel S. Weiss Award for Outstanding Service. The award was established in commemoration of ACG’s founding father, Samuel S. Weiss, whose efforts and initiative resulted in the establishment of the College in 1932. It is presented in recognition of outstanding career service to the American College of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Farmer was at the Cleveland Clinic for 30 years, where he was Chief of Gastroenterology for 10 years and Chair of Medicine for 16 years. He served on the faculty at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., for 12 years, and from 2003 to 2011, he served as Professor and Chief of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Division of the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, N.Y. He is now Professor of Medicine Emeritus. Dr. Farmer was President of the American College of Gastroenterology in 1979 and subsequently was awarded Mastership.
